All About Soy Wax

Have you ever burned a candle and before you know it, its burned down all the way? Or you get ¾ of the way through a large candle and you realize all you smell is wax? Or are you frustrated by the wasteful nature of paraffin in an eco conscious home?

I’ve got the solution for you!

Soy Wax!!

Soy wax is a slow, clean burning alternative to paraffin wax and it is a renewable, non-toxic, and biodegradable resource.

How it is made:

Soy wax is made from the oil of soybeans. They are cracked and then rolled into flakes. The flakes are then processed into the oil! The oil is processed even further into a wax with a higher melting point than the oil.

Soy beans from our provider are grown in the USA in mostly Iowa, Indiana, and Illinois. Because they are a product that is farmed, they are a completely renewable resource, unlike paraffin.

Why it is better:

Because soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin and is less finicky with discoloration than beeswax, it is easy to work with and very slow burning. Our 8 oz candles burn for about 60 hours! It also holds our scent incredibly well and evenly. So after one minute of stirring, our fragrance is completely incorporated and will smell just as strong throughout your whole burn.

Soy wax is also nontoxic and non-carcinogenic so they are safer to burn in your home than other candles.

One of the only downsides we have found in soy wax is that it doesn’t always take well to dyes. In our tests, they come out a lighter and patchy version of the color we were hoping for. For that reason we choose not to offer colors here at Candle Kitchen.
We also like to keep our candles as clean as we can. With the soy wax, cotton wicks and combinations of essential oils and high quality fragrance oils, we are very proud of our candles and the quality of them.
